To put it bluntly, we intend to meet the sense of death with the sense of life.

We have stopped asking which side is right, and are no longer interested in choosing between opposites.

We would rather learn to put them on and take them off like a pair of pants.

This sentiment is an inheritance from our freak American condition: A collision of competing myths, histories and realities that have been buried within America and buried within ourselves.

This buried America is a much older one, perhaps. One that only exists in the heart. An America of dreams and air conditioned nightmares. It is comprised of seers, madmen, raptures and tycoons. One large enough for God and doubt, appetite and restraint, solitude and spectacle. For buying and selling.

For sacred and ridiculous. For the apple—and the worm rotting inside of it.
